Thank you very much Stephan for your valuable feedback.

Your comments about the local users/groups issues is a good one, esp. in
a large domain.

At this point, we would like to suggest that this issue be decoupled
from the DameWare/
Security Explorer because we can satisfy the requirement of making these
products
functional whereas they do not today with ONStor filer.

An ECR to defunct returning the domain users and groups by MMC, DameWare
and
Security Explorer can then be created, properly designed reviewed and
implemented.

Brian,

Sorry for my late response but I was on the road last week, and wanted
to read specs firmly.=20
Anyway thanks for your request - I feel honored ;-)=20

This reads actually very good and I am looking forward to see this
implemented. It will give a lot of our Windows-minded enterprise
customers, not only ZDF, more (let's say) confidence.=20

But I have one point left to comment, regarding the "Local Users" and
"local groups" behavior.

In my opinion it makes no sense to give back all Domain Users / Groups
here!

The main issue here is that in complex AD Structures where the Bobcat
has to enumerate thousands of Objects and this consumes just way too
much time. We've seen that at a couple of customers where they had
thousands of Users and Groups to enumerate and there it seemed like the
MMC hangs for minutes.=20

Thus it would be better to give back either a blank list - that would
not hurt since we actually don't have local users and there's no need to
administer AD-Objects at this stage. And - even more in the past a
customer has named this behavior as a possible security hole.

Or - we could give back the local Administrator account and some "build
in" groups or - start supporting local users and groups for Cifs.

Btw - NetApp doesn't show fixed groups / users there - they do indeed
support those.

Best Regards

Stephan
